What is Rise and Honor?
Rise and Honor is a charitable program created by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) that raises critical funds to support essential reintegration services for veterans and their loved ones. By generating awareness and funds, the program intends on making the needs of veterans returning from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars a first-tier issue and creates a call to action for all Americans to join in support of those who have risked life and limb in service to our country.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Emmy Award-winning reality television show, teamed up with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to present a one-hour special: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition “Rise and Honor” A Veterans Day Special. The show aired on Friday, November 11th on ABC. Host Ty Pennington revisited some of the most heartwarming military stories featured over the years. Additionally, celebrities highlighted issues veterans face after serving in the military, as well as the strengths and skills returning veterans bring to the work force and their communities. The program culminated in a live musical performance by Jewel, who also co-hosted the special, to an audience comprised of active-duty service members, veterans and their families. Net proceeds raised from the airings and online streaming of the one-hour special benefit veteran-serving organizations that provide vital services and support to our nations’ veterans and their families including housing, job placement, career readiness, health care, rehabilitation and mental health treatment.

Net proceeds from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition “Rise and Honor” A Veterans Special benefit veteran-serving organizations including Fisher House Foundation, Hire Heroes USA, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, USO, Volunteers of America and Welcome Back Veterans. Our current beneficiaries are well-respected within the nongovernmental organization (NGO) community and have been working with veterans and their families for years by providing support and vital services which include housing, job placement, health care, rehabilitation and mental health treatment.

Donations will be allocated according to each organization’s capacity to accept the funds and to use them as quickly, effectively and responsibly as possible. Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) holds the Rise and Honor Fund and is responsible for ensuring proper oversight and administration of all donated funds.
Back to the TopWhat criteria did you use in selecting the beneficiary organizations?
Grants will be made through a competitive process that values fact-based strategies, experience, competence and a commitment to the delivery of effective and accessible services. The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) grant making staff, based on advice from experts in veterans’ programs, family psychology, medicine and education, identified the following criteria:
- Clearly identified objectives and program activities
- A detailed operating plan with a budget for use of funds
- Tracking and reporting capabilities, with a commitment to a high level of transparency
- A strong and responsible leadership team in place
- Legal status in compliance as nonprofit entity
Will beneficiary organizations need to apply for funds or to use the donations within a certain timeframe?
Each beneficiary organization is required to meet specific criteria and will be accountable for all distributed funds. Funds must be used only for the purposes and goals established with each organization prior to their receiving of funds. The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) will provide fiduciary oversight to monitor how donations are used.

Donations will support a wide range of services for veterans and their families, including housing assistance for families of wounded veterans in treatment, job training and placement assistance, emergency aid, support group, mental health and PTSD-related services, and services specifically targeting female veterans.

No, however donations will benefit organizations that serve families like those featured in the show. Issues highlighted including support for wounded warriors and their families, female veteran homelessness and transitional housing, employment, mental health services and clinical treatment are services provided by our selected beneficiaries. E-mail receipts are sent out within 10 days of donating. If it has been longer than that and you still have not received an e-mail, please contact Donor Services at riseandhonor@eifoundation.org. If you did not provide an e-mail address, your receipt will be sent via United States Postal Service regular mail. This can take several weeks. If it has been longer than 4-6 weeks since you donated, please contact Donor Services at riseandhonor@eifoundation.org.

Many companies encourage employees to support non-profit initiatives like Rise and Honor by offering to match employee donations. If your company has such a program, you should be able to obtain a matching gift application form from the human resources or personnel department or from your company's website for you to download. When our donation form asks users to enter Personally Identifiable Information, that information is encrypted and is protected with industry standard encryption software - - Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). However, no transmission over the internet is 100% secure from intrusion. We work to protect the security of your information during transmission by using SSL software, which encrypts information you input. When donating online, you may be asked to list your name, email address, residence address, other personal contact information and credit card information ("Personally Identifiable Information") to a third-party credit card processor.
